Three Questions You Should Ask Your Obstetrician Before Pregnancy

About Me
Stay Healthy, Live a Long Time

Hello! My name is Tony and this is my new blog. I decided to start this blog while I was in the hospital recovering from an operation I had to have to remove a tumour from my body. My story had started a few months beforehand when I developed a cough which I couldn't get rid of. I had some test and the doctors discovered I had a tumour in my chest. I will be the first to admit that I haven't been as good as I could have been in terms of looking after my own health. However, since being diagnosed, I have been learning all I can about how to stay healthy.

Three Questions You Should Ask Your Obstetrician Before Pregnancy

Obstetricians are an amazing resource for pregnant mothers, as they have helped countless women go through what can be a very traumatic event. They are at your beck and call virtually all the time, and many give out personal numbers and contact information so that they can help if you do have a pressing concern. However, it is easy to forget questions when you are first meeting your obstetrician and as your pregnancy progresses. Here are three questions you should remember to ask your obstetrician before the big day so that you have total peace of mind.

Who Else Will Be There During The Delivery?

The last thing you want is to be surprised at what other professionals will be present when you are in labour, so it can be a great idea to ask your obstetrician to walk you through who will be there. From any nurses to other potential specialists (depending on your pregnancy conditions), you can ask them to explain the whole procedure if you like. Most obstetricians will deliver the baby themselves, so they will be the medical expert in charge of the whole event, but it never hurts to know who else will be there so you can visualise it and not be shocked.

Do I Need To Change What I Eat Or What I Do?

Your eating habits are going to change drastically while pregnant, and this is something most women are prepared for. Still, it is a good idea to talk to your obstetrician about your diet and figure out what is good for you and what you might want to avoid. The same goes for exercise and the more rigorous chores and routines that you need to get through. Change to your lifestyle is inevitable, and you should begin planning for it as early as possible with your obstetrician there to guide you.

What Happens To My Current Medication?

If you do take regular medication, then this should be one of the first things you bring up with your obstetrician. They will have access to your medical files and history so they can make an informed decision on how best to keep up with your needs while not endangering the baby. It can be a good idea to see an obstetrician while trying to get pregnant to see if your current medication will have any effect should you succeed in getting pregnant. Most medication is fine, so you should be all clear, but it is always best to be safe.
